The palace has been the official residence of the Kings of Siam (and later Thailand) since 1782. The king, his court, and his royal government were based on the grounds of the palace until 1925.

In the present time, The Royal Family resides at Chitralada Palace while The Grand Palace is used for ceremonial purposes. Located at the heart of Bangkok, Thailand, the Grand Palace was a former residence for King Rama I to King Rama V of the Rattanakosin Kingdom.

Rather than being a single structure, the Grand Palace is made up of numerous buildings, halls, pavilions set around open lawns, gardens and courtyards.

Its asymmetry and eclectic styles are due to its organic development, with additions and rebuilding being made by successive reigning kings over 200 years of history.

Wat Pho in Bangkok – The Temple of the Reclining Buddha: It is on Rattanakosin Island, directly south of the Grand Palace. … Known also as the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, its official name is Wat Phra Chetuphon.

Wat Pho is our absolute favorite among Bangkok’s biggest sights. In fact, the compound incorporates a host of superlatives: the city’s largest reclining Buddha, the largest collection of Buddha images in Thailand and the country’s earliest center for public education.

Wat Pho is one of the top six temples in Thailand and is famous for the huge statue of the Reclining Buddha.

By huge, we mean so big it looks like the temple was built around it because there’s really no way it could have been squeezed through the door.
