Frederick Anderson’s show at Park and 63rd on a rainy (but, oy, steamy) Thursday morning. It is an archetypal New York Fashion Week moment.

The diversification of visions and voices has been a terrific and welcome change for NYC fashion, but let’s not forget those designers who are giving a youthful and thoughtful twist to what was called, back in the day, ‘uptown clothes.’ We do need to be hearing, and acknowledging, everyone who makes up the particular patchwork of New York’s fashion scene.

Manhattan Jewish Historical Initiative, Annual Jewish Hall of Fame Class of 2020

The New York Jewish community could well be considered one of the greatest centers of Jewish living, intellectual and cultural achievement, and participation and contribution to our home country as any community in the entire 5,000 year history of our Jewish civilization.

Incredibly, this local history has never systematically been put in place for Manhattan (in the past decade, local Jewish historical societies have been established for Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island).

This is a legacy project, and one that could not have been accomplished in the planned scope until now. The new technological age creates the possibility to use website and social media to integrate information, including pictures, neighborhoods, stories, oral and video histories, among so many other things.

The outreach to the local, national and international community, Jewish and non-Jewish, is now self-evident.

Through the Manhattan Jewish Historical Initiative, the story of the Jewish community can be marketed to the world, serving as a means by which the life, institutions, and cultural activities of the New York Jewish community can be defined, and marketed for the purpose of giving due recognition to its great achievements, and its role in fostering the Jewish religion, Jewish cultural life and thinking, and Tikkun Olam, in its contribution to the greater multicultural community it has lived with in Manhattan, NYC, America, Israel and the world.

Quarterly meeting have been held since July, 2012, bringing together leaders representing the broad spectrum of the Jewish community of Manhattan, including the Jewish cultural institutions and organizations, Jewish elected officials, religious community, educational institutions, and others.

Initially there has been an exploration of resources in the community. The Manhattan Jewish community has vast resources to call upon, whether it be collections, research and histories already in place at the museums and organizations, city and organizational archives, and so forth, whether it be in terms of the technical expertise of those involved, or the outreach to young people.

This needs to be collected and coordinated, and added to with the collections and stories of the Jewish community at large. Additionally, as an example, the coordination of MJHI with elected officials in their districts for stories of neighborhoods and personal stories would be a boon to everyone involved.

As to the direction for the Initiative, initially it will be low-budgeted, with not much more than a consultant to establish a website, which will be necessary as the backbone and vehicle for this project. The website will be sophisticated, and in many ways be structured similar to the model that has already been created by the Brooklyn Jewish Historical Initiative.

Target date for a MicroSite was suggested for late, 2013, with full Website projected for late Spring, 2014.  An initial event was planned, and held in Fall, 2013 to showcase the Initiative, and also let the community participate directly.

Clearly the project will need funding, although this Initiative is not conceptualized to create a significant overhead, as the bulk of the effort will be community and technologically driven. Social media campaigns will be incorporated in all planning, both for marketing and fundraising, as that is today’s outreach.

Larger take-on’s will be conceptualized as the Initiative progresses, including the possibility of using the Initiative as a vehicle for increasing Jewish culture tourism to NYC.

MJHI is conceptualized to not be competitive with any current organization in the Jewish community, and to be supportive of a longer-term legacy project of the entirety of the Jewish community.Manhattan Jewish Historical Initiative (MJHI),  Jewish Hall of Fame , Class of 2020, took place on Tuesday May 5th 2021, at the Bryant Park , 42nd St Between 5th and 6th Avenues.

A Day of Remembrance for Murdered New York Police Dept, Officer Phillip Cardillo-2021

A Day of Remembrance,’ for NYPD officer Phillip Cardillo who was gunned down forty-nine years ago, inside the Nation of Islam mosque on 116th street in Harlem. The observance was held Saturday April 17th, 2021 from 11:00AM  -12:30 PM at 130-30 28th Avenue in Queens, New York 11354.

Members of the Cardillo family, clergy, NYPD, Long Island Shields, Queens elected officials and former NYPD Detective Randy Jurgensen will commemorate the life of Patrolman Cardillo.

Jurgensen was active in the campaign with NYC Councilman Peter Vallone, NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association’s Ed Mullins, and NYPD Patrolman Tim Motto (now deceased) to have this College Point, Queens street renamed after Patrolman Cardillo, In 2015, the street was renamed to “Patrolman Philip Cardillo Way.”

To date, no one has ever served a day in jail for the crime. Additionally, for the past 4 years, the FBI and the NYPD have been withholding evidence in the Cardillo murder case. The watchdog group Judicial Watch sued the FBI and NYPD in New York State Supreme Court for failing to produce records in the case. The FBI is not releasing any investigative files, because the NYPD now claims there is an active investigation. Why would the FBI and especially The NYPD not be forthcoming with the information we are seeking. Does the cover-up continue?NYPD Patrolman Phillip Cardillo, more than 43 years after he was fatally shot in the controversial Harlem Mosque incident.

In attendance at the day of remembrance, who spoke: Inspector Andre M. Brown Commanding Officer 28 Precinct, PBA Manhattan North Financial Secretary Joe Strong, Senator John Liu, NYPD Assistant Chief Chaplain Monsignor Robert J. Romano, who did the opening and closing prayers., and Randy Jurgensen , Former New York Police department detective who investigated the Homicide of Phillip Cardillo spoke in detail, about , what had happened and forty nine years later, that the NYPD and FBI, were not giving certain information, which could possibly solve the case one and for all, Mr.  Jurgensen went on to say, that an Journalist was investigating and writing a book about this and hopefully that might shred  some light on this case.

Humanitarians of the World Inc, 20th Annual Toy Presentation-2020

For the past 19 years on an annual basis, just a week before the Christmas holidays, we have been distributing Toys, Games, Books and electronic gadgets to thousands of kids and families in need with The Humanitarians of the World Inc, Toy and Food presentations on an annual basis.

We distribute close to 100 bags, which contain enough toys and food for a family of four. Most of the toys are given to kids who have Cancer, MS and many other life threatening diseases and the parents are struggling to buy the kids the necessary toys for the holidays.

Also we have been donating toys to needy children, in the projects, homeless shelters throughout the five boroughs.

Many times we would also deliver some toys, at local hospitals to sick children, with Cancer, MS and many other life threatening diseases.

So this year we were not able to donate any toys at the hospitals to many children, because of the underlying conditions and the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Year 2020, has been the worst year for many people around the world, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. We at Humanitarians of the World Inc have been struggling more than ever to raise money and donations for our many Humanitarian causes.

So this year, we did not get many donations of money or toys, so we ended up buying the toys for the children , because we decided that the toys are desperately needed , for many kids who are needy and parents are struggling now more than ever to support their households.

Humanitarians of the World Inc, officers and volunteers, got together and raised enough money for 50 bags of toys, games, books and electronic gadgets. The 50 Bags were given to 50 People with an average family of 4 people, total people of 200 were given toys and food.

I want to thank Rev, Bruce Grodner, National Executive Director, American Clergy Leadership Conference, for his donation and volunteering to help us to deliver Toys to many of the needy families. I like to Thank Ron Vincent for donating a bag to a needy family in honor of  Lance Bobrow, who passed away from Cancer  6 years ago.  Humanitarians of the World Inc ,donated a bag in honor of Hazel Cathers, Executive  Director , Soldiers’, Sailors’, Marines’, Coast Guard and Airmen’s Club. who recently passed away. Also I like to thank, all our Board of Directors, Staff Members and volunteers for making the Humanitarians of the World Inc, Toy and Food presentation to needy children and families a super success.
