John Sexton, President of New York University (NYU) – 2011

John Sexton is the fifteenth and current President of New York University. His tenure has been marked by a university that has grown faster than ever in terms of prospective student interest and a coordinating decrease in the overall acceptance rate. NYU’s desirability and student body thrive. Sexton acknowledged that new fundraising programs would be required to meet these changes and further transform the University.

His presidency has made the greatest achievement in its efforts to increase the University’s endowment through the Campaign for NYU and – with the assistance of the Board of Trustees – has expanded the faculty of arts and science through the Partners Fund.

Under President Sexton’s administration, the University has moved forward from being an institution that is “in and of the city,” to being one that is in and of the world. With 10 international academic centers and its portal campus in Abu Dhabi – the first comprehensive liberal arts and science campus in the Middle East to be operated abroad by a major American research university – New York University has become a true Global Network University.

Argentina Six Designers Fashion Showcase at Lincoln Center’s NY Fashion Week -2011

Six Argentine designers were selected by New York’s fashion editors and stylists to debut their Spring 2012 collection. Among those included Cardon, Cora Groppo, Daniela Sartori, Desiderata, Mariana Dappiano and Min Agostini. Cardon‘s Jose Mutti kicked off the show with men and women’s clothing inspired by Argentine culture. Mutti’s classic style and quality of leather, textiles and silverwork reflect the authenticity of “Rioplatense” culture.

Cora Groppo‘s fascination with nature and morphology were incorporated into her designs. She is known for her expert tailoring, sharp shapes and on the quest for “the perfect fit.” Thus, a body-hugging collection of monochromatic hues was shown.

The newest designer on the scene, Daniela Sartori, debuted a simplicity-filled SS’12 line. Her well-tailored pieces for both men and women was made up of a mainly black, white and neutral palette. The white linen dress with oversized pocket detailing was almost reminiscent of Calvin Klein.

Desiderata designer Carolina Rosales presented a feminine and modern collection in various textures and patterns. My favorite of the six, Desiderata felt the most youthful, yet able to uphold a high level of sophistication. Models sported oversized, colorful flowers in their long, flowy locks – another touch to this Argentine designer.

Catalin Botezatu World Renowned designer from Romania, debuts The “Bird” Collection at the Couture Show – 2013

Catalin Botezatu Romanian designer, presented the Birds Collection at the NY Couture Fashion Week 2013, a theme created as a follow-up of his last fashion show, Domina, in which an extraordinarily independent woman could use at her discretion the body and especially the mind of men locked in an iron cage, a silver one this time, as a luxury refuge for the woman, except that the woman can fly away from that cage, because she’s independent. And she has wings.
A woman such as the one from BIRDS Collection has certainly never been before: she’s beautiful, rare spectacular and mysterious. She comes and goes at her whim, she’s a night bird that goes at her whim, and she’s a night bird that goes to glamorous parties, on red carpets and on Luxury Cruises. She’s wrapped in airy laces and sophisticated feathers. She has an eccentric haircut and a makeup that makes her feel comfortable, but in the same time unrecognizable.
The Collection proposes evening dresses, long, well balanced, tightly fitted in the front, where the skin is covered by rich fabrics , while the back is very low cut, with supple trains which elongate the figure and give elegance to the” bird woman”.
The fabrics used for this collection are varied and precious: silk, velvet, silk viole, filigree embroidery, handmade applications, French lace finished en mille points, with feathers and fur. Black is the common denominator of all these fabrics, the overlapping of the textures ton sur ton being extremely elegant and specific to all outfits signed by Catalin Botezatu. The refined black is made more evident with glittering silver details we are already talking about a combination much sought-after in 2013-1014.
The shoes, especially designed for Birds Collection, are spectacularly accessorized with feathers, brilliant and very high-heeled .The leather gloves range from long and medium to mitaines and they are also personalized with delicate feathers. The entire collection has been created with the sole purpose of attracting admiring glances.
Women will wish to look like the Birds Woman and men will want to be as near as possible to the Birds Woman.

2014 Toyota Highlander Greets the World with NYC debut at The NY Auto Show 2013

The new third-generation Highlander will come with the buyer’s choice of three different powertrain options. The base model will be powered by a 2.7-liter four-cylinder engine coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel-drive. Next up the ladder is a 3.5-liter V6, also mated to the 6AT, which can be had with either front-or all-wheel-drive. Finally, the Highlander Hybrid will be equipped with all-wheel drive, its 3.5-liter V6 mated to an electric motor, all hooked up to a continuously variable transmission (CVT). The automaker has not released any specs for fuel economy or output yet, though we’re promised increases in both power and efficiency.

Inside, the most important feature of this model is that it seats eight humans. Beyond that, the automaker is crowing about contrast stitching on the seating surfaces, soft-touch materials on the instrument panel and accents in wood grain, silver satin and chrome. The third row is now easier to access via a sliding second-row point of entry, and is more capacious thanks to 4.3-inches of added width. There’s also a raft of newly safety tech including lane-departure warning, pre-collision warning and blind spot monitoring systems.

Dynasties of the Sea, interview with Author Lori Ann LA Rocco at The Plaza Hotel NY

Stamford, CT, Marine Money Inc. November 12, 2012 – CNBC Senior Talent Producer and author Lori Ann LaRocco offers readers a rarefied view into the high-stakes world of shipping in Dynasties of the Sea: The Shipowners and Financiers Who Expanded the Era of Free Trade (Marine Money Inc.)
Packed with personal stories, actionable business strategies and tips for navigating the precarious world of global finance, Dynasties of the Sea is both a vital business book and a rollicking good read. Dynasties of the Sea profiles 21 of the world’s shipping pioneers, the men and women who have built and lost and re-built vast fortunes moving goods across the sea.
Whether born into the business or swept into it by a love of adventure and profit, these fascinating characters tell the stories of their early beginnings and cyclical successes in one of the most volatile and profitable businesses on earth.
Despite the industry having “the lowest cycle-to-cycle financial returns and the highest inter-cycle volatility, says marine finance expert Matt McCleery, “one might be tempted to think the international shipping industry would do nothing but destroy capital…yet the fact is that it has created more fortunes than any other business except technology.”
LaRocco, the best-selling author of Thriving in the New Economy (Wiley 2010) and renown for her ability to get busy billionaires to pick up the phone, is no stranger to the world’s business elite. “One of the biggest themes that came out of this book is how these shipping titans are worried about the health of the global economy and the bloated imbalance sheets of the United States and Europe,” LaRocco says.
“Their decisions on how they are leading were compelling.”
The shipping leaders give their candid assessment of where they are in the shipping cycle, the changing energy landscape and how they plan to lead their companies in the future.
World Liberty TV was on hand at the 13th Annual Marine Money Shipping Conference, where we interviewed the publishers, people in the Shipping industry who are showcased in the book, as well as the Author Loriann Larocco.
