6th Annual New York State Boxing Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony-2017

Living boxers heading into the NYSBHOF include Manhattan welterweight Gaspar “El Indio” Ortega (131-39-6, 69 KOs), Yonkers’ world heavyweight title challenger Renaldo “Mr.” Snipes (39-8-1, 22 KOs), Yonkers middleweight Doug “Cobra’ Dewitt (33-8-5, 19 KOs), and “The Bronx Bomber,” world middleweight title challenger Alex Ramos (39-10-2, 24 KOs)

Posthumous participants being inducted are Queens’ former middleweight and light heavyweight world champion Dick Tiger (60-19-3, 27 KOs), Brooklyn/Manhattan light heavyweight world champion Jose “Chegui” Torres (41-3-1, 29 KOs), and Williamsburg’s middleweight world champion, “The Nonpareil” Jack Dempsey (51-4-11, 23 KOs).

Other non-participants heading into the NYSBHOF, along with Bartels and Katz, are Brooklyn/Bronx matchmaker Stan Hoffman and Queens’ International agent Don Majeski.

Posthumous non-participant inductees are Brooklyn boxing historian Hank Kaplan, Long Island cut-man Al Gavin, Bronx referee Arthur Donovan and New York City columnist Dan Parker.

Each inductee will receive a custom-designed belt signifying his induction into the NYSBHOF.

The 2017 inductees were selected by the NYSBHOF nominating committee members:  Jack Hirsch, Steve Farhood, Bobby Cassidy, Jr., Randy Gordon, Henry Hascup, Ron McNair, Angelo Prospero and Neil Terens.

Korean American Family Service Center’s 28th Annual Benefit Gala-2017

The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) successfully hosted its 28th Annual Benefit Gala, “Raising Hope and Transforming Lives,” on Friday, April 28th, 2017 at 6 PM at the Cipriani 42nd Street (110 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017) to celebrate 28 years of outstanding services to the New York Tri-State area and continuous efforts to create a violence-free society.

National Action Network’s 26th Annual Conference & Dream Keepers Gala -2017

The Convention, which is annually held in the spirit and tradition of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., which featured leaders in civil rights, government, tech, education, clergy, and entertainment from April 26-29 in New York City.

National Action Network (NAN), founded by civil rights leader Rev. Al Sharpton, will convene its annual national convention from April 26-29 at the Sheraton Times Square (811 7th Avenue @ 52nd Street).  The convention is free and open to the public but registration is required and isolated events are ticketed.

NAN’s convention was  held in President Donald Trump’s home town, featuring high profile plenary sessions and panel discussions around crucial issues, such as voting rights, criminal justice reform, immigration, health care, education, corporate responsibility, economic equity and more. Each day of the NAN convention there was   a hackathon and technology competition, and each evening there were be revivals featuring leading national preachers.

Keepers of the Dream Awards, which was  hosted by Actor Samuel L. Jackson and  honored  Harry Belafonte, Rev. Dr. William Barber, II, the pastor who organized Moral Mondays, Terry O’Neill the President of the National Organization of Women (NOW), and other national leaders. The awards, given each year in April to mark the anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s death, honor those who have continued to advocate the principles for which Dr. King gave his life. Former President Barack Obama delivered the keynote remarks at the Keepers of the Dream Awards in 2011.
