Apne Aap International Presents The Last Girl Abolitionist Awards-2019

Apne Aap was founded by twenty-two women from Mumbai’s red light district, with a vision of a world where no woman could be bought or sold.

The twenty-two women who founded were the subject of Ruchira Gupta’s Emmy award winning documentary, “The Selling of Innocents,” which exposed the trafficking of women and girls from Nepal to India. During the production of the film, the women formed a connection with each other that ended their isolation and gave them the strength to resist their situation.

The Following were honored at the International Day of the Girl: Fisk Johnson,(Chairman & CEO of SC Johnson), Rosanna Arquette ,(Pulp Fiction, Desperately Seeking Susan), Zoe Bleu Sidel, (artist, poet, and actor), Shandra Woworuntu, (trafficking survivor leader), Nandana Sen, author, actor, child’s rights activist and Simone Monasebian,(NY Representative of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime).

Master of Ceremonies  was Reshma Shetty (Royal Pains, Bombay Dreams), Spoken Word Performance by Staceyann Chin (poet & author of The Other Side of Paradise: A Memoir), Gala Co-Chairs were Gloria Steinem and Ashley Judd. Close to 200 people were in attendance, to support this very worthwhile cause .

Interview with Actress & Advocate Rosanna Arquette & her daughter Zoe Bleu Sidel

Rosanna  Arquette is an American actress, film director, and film producer. She was nominated for an Emmy Award for her performance in the 1982 TV film The Executioner’s Song, and won the BAFTA Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the 1985 film Desperately Seeking Susan. Her other film roles include After Hours (1985), The Big Blue (1988), Pulp Fiction (1994), and Crash (1996). She also directed the 2002 documentary Searching for Debra Winger, and starred from 2006 to 2007 in the ABC sitcom What About Brian?

Arquette has appeared in both television and screen films. In 1982, she earned an Emmy Award nomination for the TV film The Executioner’s Song. However, she was unhappy with the film’s nude scene, remarking in an interview that the idea of the general public seeing her naked made her feel uncomfortable and exploited, and that most of the offers she’d received since demanded that she similarly expose herself.

Her first starring role was in John Sayles’s 1983 film, Baby It’s You, a highly regarded but little seen film. She starred in Desperately Seeking Susan (1985) alongside pop singer Madonna.

In 2010, Rosanna Arquette became Goodwill Ambassador for The Womanity Foundation.

We had the pleasure of interviewing Rosanna Arquette at the Apne Aap ,The 2019 last Girl Award Dinner ,celebrating International Day of the Girl, where Rosanna and her daughter Zoe Bleu Sidel were honored.
