Me and my team went to Bangkok Thailand, in July 2024, as we celebrated 4th July in Bangkok. I must say it was a 7-day trip. Bangkok, officially known in Thai as Krung Thep Maha Nakhon and colloquially as Krung Thep, is the capital and most populous city of Thailand.
We started our trip from Logan Airport in Boston, as the prices from JFK were very expensive, so we decided to fly from Logan Airport in Boston. We flew on Qatar Airways, From Boston to Doha in Qatar and then from Doha to Bangkok, the flight was approx., 20 hours that’s not including layover in Doha which was 3 hours.
We traveled Economic, on Qatar Airlines, the service was excellent, air stewardesses were well mannered, all spoke English well, a lot of them were Asian, From India, Thailand, Philippines and many more parts of Asia.
We were fed well, many times over, I was able to eat anything on the flight, as all the meats were Halal, there were hundreds of Movies, TV Shows from all over the World you can watch, play games, listen to all kinds of music from all over the world. As you know 20 hours of flight is a long time, so all these activities are needed to keep you busy while you are traveling for 20 hours.
The Hamad International Airport, in Doha, Qatar has in Qatar named the best airport in the world in the 2024 Skytrax awards, knocking 12-time winner Singapore Changi Airport down to second place.
The Hamad International Airport, is a beautiful place to visit and see, as we had an 8 hours of layover. We were able to explore.
The innovative design takes its inspiration from the Arabian Gulf’s gentle waves, drawing up to 58 million travelers into its dramatic light-infused spaces.
Its most iconic feature is a massive tropical garden called the Orchard, covering more than 64,000 square feet with more than 300 plants and 25,000 plants.
The city is known for its modern architecture, high-rise buildings, and luxurious shopping malls.
The city has experienced rapid growth and development in recent years, largely due to Qatar’s vast reserves of oil and natural gas, which have made the country one of the wealthiest in the world.
Our layover was from 11pm till 8am, in Doha so were not able to do a tour of Doha, which unusually starts at 7am till 9pm, so our timing was off here.
Apart from that we had a great experience at the airport, we definitely will fly Qatar Airlines going forward.
On The flight from Boston we met a very nice man, named Edward Chan, born in Hong Kong, spend many years living throughout, Thailand.
Mr. Chan had been to almost every location in Thailand one can think of, so I asked him so many questions, like what was the best locations, to visit while in Bangkok, what to eat, what locations are great for shopping, what are some of the attractions one should visit while in Bangkok.
It turned out that Mr. Chan was staying at the same hotel as us, approximately 25 minutes from the airport, as we got friendly with him, he told us that his lady friend was going to pick him up at the airport, and we were welcome to ride along with him to the hotel.
I told him we don’t want to be a burden, we can take our own taxi, but Mr. Chan, convinced us to ride along with him and we just did that.
We landed at Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) Thailand’s main airport. Wow, the airport was so busy with so many people coming and going from all over the World. I have to say I have never seen a busy airport then Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK).
Mr. Chan’s lady friend was there waiting for us, she was very nice and polite, spoke with minimum English, as Mr. Chan, who spoke Thai very well and introduced us to here.
Next Morning, we met Mr. Chan in the lobby of the hotel, where we enjoyed breakfast and started planning our tours of Bangkok, Mr. Chan referred us to a few people who did tours, he told us to his experience it is good to get a good taxi driver and have him take you on a tour, if you booked through hotel or private tour operators it would be very expensive, as journalist’s with not too much money in our pockets.
We took Mr. Chans advice to heart and did deals with taxi drivers, to take us around, and of course, you had to pay admission fees to different locations you attend.
We were also advised by Mr. Chan that the SUPER Rich Money Currency exchange was the best place to exchange money as they give you a better rate versus its competitors, as we stayed the exchange rate for $1 US Dollar was 36.7 Baht’s, which was the best possible rate one can get at that time.
I want to say, Mr. Chan, was the greatest person we met on the flight and in Bangkok, he was truly a wonderful man, who helped us each step of the way, with his advice and wisdom we were able to accomplish a lot of things.
We will stay in touch with Mr. Chan, who lives in New Hampshire here in the USA. Thank you Mr. Chan, we appreciate all you did for us and we are so happy to call you a Friend.
So let’s get to the tour of Bangkok, Thailand, give us 8 days and we will give you whole of Thailand. That’s exactly what we are going to do.
The people from Thailand who we met spoke English, to get by, we were able to communicate, and put deals together with us.
The Food was great, there were many varieties, of cuisines from all over the world, I was very impressed there were Halal, Restaurants, where one can eat the meats you like to eat. The desserts were out of this world, all the cakes you enjoy, Ice cream and so much more. I would highly recommend that you drink bottled water, not the Thai water.
I believe Bangkok and whole of Thailand has close to 14 Thousand 7/11 Stores one on each corner, I asked Mr. Chan, why so many stores, he told me that the Thai, people like to go and shop there, and that’s why they are so popular.
I am going to mention some of the Iconic locations we attended in Bangkok and outside of Bangkok, so you have a better idea of the locations we attended and you have a very detailed video which you can watch and see our ventures.
