The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) successfully hosted its 29th Annual Benefit Gala, “Raising Hope, Transforming Lives,” on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate 29 years of outstanding services to the New York Tri-State area and continuous efforts to create a violence-free society.

With over 600 attendees, KAFSC honored the First Lady of New York City, Chirlane McCray with the Community in Action Award. Cecile Noel, Commissioner of the Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence (OCDV), accepted the award on behalf of the First Lady.

“The commitment and dedication of the Korean American Family Service Center ensures that survivors of domestic violence in the Korean community receive culturally sensitive and relevant programming,” said Noel. “OCDV is proud to partner with KAFSC and congratulates the organization on another successful year.”

KAFSC also honored Julienne and Elliot Park of Shine Electronics with the Vision in Action Award. They were joined by KAFSC supporters who were passionate about KAFSC’s mission to prevent and end domestic violence and relationship abuse, and create a violence-free society.

A longtime advocate and supporter of KAFSC, Vivian Lee from NY1 facilitated KAFSC’s Gala as its Mistress of Ceremonies again this year. In addition, KAFSC Hodori “Little Tiger” Afterschool students performed the Korean fan dance and added more excitement.
Honorees & Officers of KAFSC
The program consisted of a major Live Auction and Live Appeal “Raise Your Hand” as well as Silent Auction to raise funds, which would comprise a significant portion of KAFSC’s annual operating cost to serve more than 2,500 individuals in the community.

KAFSC’s Board members, Roger C. Park and Thomas Roh were the Gala Co-Chairs and Katharine Choi served as the Auction Chair. This year’s Host Committee Co-Chairs were Scarlette Cho and Michelle Lee.
