On its vast 47sq mile property (one-and-half-times territory of Manhattan island in NYC!), WDW constructed as many as 23 themed resorts, operating today under its brand name. The original Contemporary and Polynesian resorts have blossomed from their introductory $13/night pricing to some $1000/night in highly demanded school break weeks! The grandeur of Grand Floridian tops them all, marble and all: its lobby orchestra, its gigantic hand-crafted bird cage, the reputed Faberge eggs we observed this Easter season and the ceiling-high Xmas tree at year’s end, the magnificent Wedding pavilion, the glam restaurateurs…And then the timeless ingenuity of the craftsmen of the gigantic Wilderness Lodge, seemingly erected yesterday 40+ years later – although one struggles to spot a single nail within its seven-story authentic wooden majesty!
We thoroughly enjoyed exclusive “pirate boat” rides along the natural Bay Lake – all the way between the Magic Kingdom and the Wilderness Campground, with its Saloon-styled dinner shows and the Perscheron champion horses. 2400lb of a horse!
The magnificence of the Seven Seas Lagoon built by WDW to create the eye-pleasing environ for the flagship Grand Floridian and Polynesian, the newly constructed beach houses of the Disney Vacation Club portfolio, the Tree House Villas between the Saratoga Springs and the Port Orleans resorts, the new cottages on the side of the Wilderness Lodge’s hourly geyser spouts, the native African craftsmanship that went into a billion-dollar Jambo House once profiled in the “World’s Best Hotels” Travel Channel selection, and on and on. It truly takes dozens of stays at the WDW Resort to even partly experience the scale of infrastructure envisioned first in the 1960s by the man with Earth history’s most recognized last name Disney!!
