Safilo Group, Glasses fashion Show at The Vision Expo at New York Javits Center – New York, 2014

Safilo’s brand portfolio consists of Safilo Brands and licensed brands, selected on the basis of competitive positioning and international prestige, which guarantee the Group world leadership in the high-end market.

A creative team of more than 150 designers allows the Group to put more than 3,000 new models a year on the market; production and distribution are organized to guarantee respect for the particular style characteristics and positioning of every licensed brand.

Safilo Brands are strategically important in reaching the Group’s development targets in the middle/high-end market of the “fashion” and “casual-sports” segments in every category of products (optical frames, sunglasses, and sports products such as, for example, ski goggles and helmets and technical glasses for many sports).

The Group follows a policy which aims at having a brand portfolio which is diversified in terms of geographical positioning, age, gender, and income bracket target, and needs of the end customer.

Exclusive Interview with Former Heavyweight Boxing Great Larry Holmes-2014

Larry Holmes (born November 3, 1949) is a former professional boxer. He grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania, which gave birth to his boxing nickname, The Easton Assassin.

Holmes, whose left jab is rated among the best in boxing history, was the WBC Heavyweight Champion from 1978 to 1983, The Ring Heavyweight Champion from 1980 to 1985, and the IBF Heavyweight Champion from 1983 to 1985. He made twenty successful title defenses, second only to Joe Louis’ twenty-five.

Holmes won his first forty-eight professional bouts, including victories over Earnie Shavers, Ken Norton, Muhammad Ali, Mike Weaver, Gerry Cooney, Tim Witherspoon and Marvis Frazier, and fell one short of matching Rocky Marciano’s career record of 49-0 when he lost to Michael Spinks in 1985. Holmes retired after losing a rematch to Spinks, but made repeated comebacks and was unsuccessful in three further attempts to regain the title, the last in 1995. He had his last fight in 2002 and ended with a career record of 69-6. He is frequently ranked as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time and has been inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame and the World Boxing Hall of Fame.

Vision Expo East 2014 and vendor Interviews at NY Javit Center

Networking experiences abound at International Vision Expo East 2014 (March 26-30 at the Javits Center in New York, NY), both online and onsite. This year, Vision Expo East will be home to more than 200 hours of special educational and networking events and meetings outside of the traditional continuing education program, which boasts over 325 hours of accreditation.

“We continue to see growth year after year demonstrating that International Vision Expo East is truly the complete eyecare event, unmatched anywhere else,” says Tom Loughran, group vice president for Reed Exhibitions. “The conference has become an opportunity for professional organizations’ members to not only shop every type of eyewear and eyecare product category on the exhibition floor and get discounted accreditation for the entire practice, but also to socialize and engage at the dramatically increased number of special events co-located at this year’s show.”

In addition to the onsite networking opportunities, Vision Expo East has significantly expanded its social media outreach, providing not only new methods of engagement onsite, but also a window into the Vision Expo experience for those not able to attend.

Visitors may catch a glimpse of Google Glass Explorers traveling the show floor, taking photos and video from a personal perspective and offering try-on experiences.

A contest  offered a different perspective of the conference as seen through visitors’ eyes. The “What’s Your #VisionExpo Favorite” Contest seeks photos that uniquely express and reflect the highlights of visitors’ day and evening experiences.

Live interviews with industry and professional icons will also take place in the #VisionExpo Social Media Zone, including a one-on-one with ODs on Facebook founder, Dr. Alan Glazier, on Friday, March 28 at 2:30 p.m. The interview is followed by a member meet-up at 3:00 p.m

OptometryStudents.com  launched  a social media contest for the more than 600 Optometry students pre-registered to attend International Vision Expo East. Students are encouraged to videotape practicing Optometrists for advice on things they wish they would have known before starting to practice, and sharing these videos on the organization’s website and on Facebook.

International Vision Expos, the worldwide conference and exhibition for eye care and eyewear are trade-only events that draw more than 30,000 eye care professionals each year. Co-owned by Reed Exhibitions and The Vision Council, International Vision Expo gives back to the entire ophthalmic community. Proceeds from International Vision Expo are used by The Vision Council to educate consumers about the importance of vision care and the options in eyewear and other related products. In 2013, The Vision Council reached millions of consumers with its messages through marketing materials, public relations outreach and strategic partnerships.
